Temperatures have gone from -5 to 15 C° in just over a day here in Europe. While we still have some Christmas decoration hanging around the house, stores have unleashed leftover stocks of Easter decoration. All while it's already/still January!
The change in temperatur definitely got me in the mood for Spring. I'm not exactly fond of "Spring makeup" in the way that it is always portrayed as the season in which you have to wear pastels...(it's not like anyone in Europe really does), but I'm all for color!
Essence and Catrice are coming up with some new products. Nothing special really, usually they mix up what they already have into different containers. It's why they're budget. Most of the new products are nail products (surprise!), "BB cream" aka crappy foundation (surprise!) and eyeliners (surprise!). Nevertheless, some things seemed a bit more practical than usual, although they might not be 100% useful or innovative. They got me tempted to buy it anyway (if it ever reaches Belgium, because I was really looking forward to the "Class of 2012" series and the "Home Sweet Home" collection...(see different post)...but I never saw it :( It really looked like their best LEs ever).
Anyway, here are some products worth talking about:
Essence Cutticle Butter Stick
Stores are full of hand lotions that also care for the nails and special nail oils, even Essence had it (Nurishing Oil and the Intensive Hand Balm, still available). But just like a lip balm it's so much more practical to keep your hands clean while applying, ESPECIALLY with hand and nail products because you don't want to wash your hands straight after applying something to them! This gives me an idea: are there any hand lotions in stick form? Please let me know!).
Essence Foundation Sponge
For those who ever wanted to get that registered "Beauty Blender", but were logically shocked by the price, this is your chance to get an egg shaped make up applicator. The benefit of this is that it doesn't streak and that it doesn't leave tidemarks (if you use the right shade of course). You hold it under the tap and squeeze out excess water. When it's moist it can't suck up as much foundation and it also gives it off better. I'm not sure if I'll use it but it will probably be like 1 euro, so why not. Most of my budget products are just there to look pretty in my stash anyways ;)
Catrice: Waterproof Coat for Mascara and Eyebrow filler
These products seem logical at first. First all there is a waterproof coat for your non-waterproof mascara. But if you apply it while the mascara is wet it will ruin the mascara. If you apply it while dry then the bristle won't slide along the lashes nicely. I would be afraid that it wouldn't cover everything. But hey, if you have a great non-waterproof mascara (and I do, the Maybelline Illegal Length), then you can "drizzle" (because I don't think you can brush over dry mascara)...this in a zig zag way over them with the wand. It must do something!
About the eyebrow filler...it's a brush, so it can only colour already existing eyebrow hairs, right? It won't fill any holes and it won't make your eyebrows seem any fuller. UNLESS the brush is able to draw on the skin rather than just brush along the hairs. I'm curious!
Catrice Mattifying Oil Control Papers
With the seasons changing, these always come in hand. Re-applying powder can make you look cakey, especially if you do not remove any oils from your skin. The papers don't ruin your foundation and you don't have to ruin any wash cloths, tissues, hankeys,...
Catrice Camouflage Cream
Yes, there are a lot of budget concealers. But never a cream. The problem with most budget concealers is that they are sturdy. They don't blend and they're usually the wrong color. A "cream" should be lighter, easy to tap into the skin with your little finger so it blends in seamlessly with all the rest. I wonder if they are water or oil based. I hope they are water based so they blend in easier with most of my foundations (water + water = long lasting fresh makeup). The colours seem pretty gentle. I'm think I would go for the lightest shade. I guess they will be around 4,99 each, knowing Catrice.
Catrice Retouch Light Reflecting Concealer
The only blendable concealer from Catrice at the moment. I already have this one and I'm wondering what it was doing in the list of new products. Maybe they improved it because it wass so succesful? I use it to highlight my eye area (but not as an under eye concealer), the highlight around my nose, around my lips and in my cupid's bow.
That's all for today!
xx
Helena
